Tooth decay is among the most common dental issues affecting patients. It occurs when certain types of oral bacteria produce an acid that destroys tooth enamel. In past years, a silver amalgam material was used to fill cavities in the teeth. However, we know now that the mercury in amalgams may be harmful to your overall health and does not fuse well with the tooth structure. At Atlas Walk Dental & Orthodontics, Dr. Najib Adi and Atlas Walk Dental use tooth-colored composite fillings to restore decayed or damaged teeth. Composite fillings allow us to be more conservative with our treatment and blend naturally with your teeth. Our skilled general dentists can also replace old amalgam fillings with composites for a safer restorative option. To learn if composites are right for you, schedule a visit at our Gainesville, VA practice today.
"Have been a patient for a short time, but have had wonderful care. The office has a very friendly front desk staff along with the Drs and hygienists I have seen. Highly recommend."- F.G. / Google / Feb 20, 2020
"I'm really happy with this dentists office. The front desk staff were friendly and I appreciated their warmth via telephone and in-person. The dental hygienist, Rebecca, was so sweet and very accommodating of my personal requests with my treatment and never once made me feel unwelcome or uncomfortable. I am satisfied with the cleaning and review of my oral health and I found Dr Alhabashi's bedside manner lovely - he was very thorough in his explanations and kind in his approach. It was refreshing not feeling rushed through discussions and not having procedures or products pushed on me! I will be happy to go back in 6 months and anticipate a similar pleasant experience!"- H.D. / Yelp / Feb 15, 2020

Tooth-colored fillings allow our dentists to rebuild areas of decay once the damaged tooth structure has been removed. Composite resin material is very versatile and can be used to restore function and appearance to your teeth in a number of situations. Dr. Adi and team use composite in the front and back teeth to treat tooth decay, chipped or broken teeth, and teeth with worn enamel. Composite is colored to match the shade of your teeth and blend seamlessly into your smile. We may also be able to remove your old silver fillings and replace them with composite tooth-colored material.
What To Expect
Restoring your teeth with composite resin is typically a quick procedure at Atlas Walk Dental & Orthodontics. Dr. Adi and the Atlas Walk team have a gentle chairside manner and help make your procedure a comfortable and positive experience. Our dentists begin by numbing the tooth with local anesthetic and can offer sedation services for an anxiety-free visit. Once you are numb, we will use a dental drill to remove damaged or decayed tooth structure and rinse the area. A composite material that matches your enamel will be layered in place and set with a special curing light. Dr. Adi or a member of the Atlas Walk team will adjust and polish your filling for comfort and a smooth finish.
Since composite fillings are simple procedures, you can generally resume normal daily activities following your treatment. You should avoid eating, though, until the numbing effect has completely worn off. In some cases, your tooth may be sensitive to hot and cold temperatures for a few days but you should not experience any major issues. If your bite feels off or your new filling feels high, please contact our office and return for a simple bite adjustment. Composite fillings are cared for with a proper brushing and flossing routine each day. At your future dental exam and cleaning visits, our team will check your composite fillings to ensure they are still in place and functioning properly.
Composite fillings used to treat damaged or decayed teeth are typically covered in part by most dental insurance plans. Our business staff will contact your provider to review your exact coverage amounts and let you know of any personal expenses. If you do not have dental insurance, our team is happy to work with you and review our convenient payment options. We also accept third-party financing payments through CareCredit®.
Cavities or other damage to your teeth may begin as a minor concern. However, it is important to address them before more extensive and expensive treatment is required. Our caring and skilled general dentists take a conservative approach to restoring teeth by using strong and natural-looking composite fillings to match your smile. If you or a loved one has tooth decay or damage, contact Atlas Walk Dental & Orthodontics in Gainesville, VA to schedule your consultation and exam today.
